Functionalization of Bacterial Cellulose With Bacterial Pigments: Optimization Using a Full Factorial Design Approach

Pigments from natural sources, such as bacterial pigments, have gained increased attention in recent years due to their biodegradability, non-toxicity, and noncarcinogenicity. The intention replace synthetic oil-derived compounds is not restricted dyes; other applications include the replacement of oilderived polymers for more environmentally friendly options, biopolymers. In this work, functionalization a cellulose (BC) biopolymer with pigments was explored using full factorial design methodology evaluate best conditions produce colored BC. From factors interactions evaluated, it possible conclude that variable duration procedure could be reduced low level without significantly affecting BC samples pigments. Moreover, product high industrial applicability, versatility, sustainability. Hence, multifunctional can applied packaging, paper, textile industries, among others.
